Melissa graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree and continued on to earn her Master of Occupational Therapy degree in 2001.
Upon graduation, Melissa had opportunities to practice in several states, including Southern California, Washington state, Georgia, and Mississippi, gaining experience in spinal cord injury, mental health, home health care, and outpatient orthopaedics focused on hand and upper extremity.
In 2008, she earned her CHT certification (certified hand therapist) through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission. To become a CHT, a therapist must have a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more of direct practice in hand therapy.
In 2014, Melissa returned to Florida, where she’d grown up in Brevard County. She has taught yoga for several years, been involved in the running community, and enjoys windsurfing, paddleboarding, and flying airplanes.
