Position Overview
As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a critical role in delivering top-notch rehabilitative services to patients with hand and upper extremity conditions. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing evidence-based therapy interventions to help patients regain functional independence and enhance their overall well-being. Your expertise and dedication will contribute significantly to the success of our orthopaedic clinic and make a positive impact on the lives of our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations of patients' hand and upper extremity conditions, taking into account medical histories, functional limitations, and individual goals to develop personalized treatment plans.
- Treatment Planning: Design and implement comprehensive treatment plans based on evaluation findings, using a combination of therapeutic modalities, exercises, and adaptive techniques to improve patients' strength, mobility, dexterity, and functional abilities.
- CHT Expertise: Demonstrate specialized knowledge and skills as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), applying advanced techniques and protocols for hand injuries, post-operative care, and complex upper extremity conditions.
- Therapy Implementation: Administer therapy sessions effectively, utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions, splinting, and other specialized techniques to promote tissue healing, pain management, and functional recovery.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on injury prevention, home exercise programs, and adaptive strategies to facilitate the continuation of therapy progress outside of the clinic.
- Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care, provide updates on progress, and ensure a holistic approach to treatment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including initial evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in compliance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements.
- Continuing Education: Stay abreast of the latest research, trends, and advancements in hand therapy and occupational therapy to enhance clinical skills and maintain professional competence.
- Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contribute to the development of clinic protocols, and uphold the highest standards of patient care.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
Qualifications
- Current state licensure in good standing as an Occupational Therapist.
- Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) certification preferred but not required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably with expertise in hand therapy. New graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Strong clinical skills in evaluating and treating hand and upper extremity conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient in using electronic medical record systems and related software.
