Wear and tear on the shoulder joint over time or through traumatic injury can result in severe joint damage and inflammation, or arthritis, that requires surgical intervention. As with joint replacement for hip and knee arthritis, total shoulder replacement is available for patients affected by shoulder arthritis.

Total shoulder replacement works by removing the damaged areas of the ball and socket of your shoulder joint. Your surgeon then replaces these joint surfaces with new, compatible joint components that will help you move your arm more naturally again without the pain and inflammation caused by damaged surfaces rubbing against each other.
